Why is it that most of us find baby animals so irresistibly cute? What prompts us to feed birds, to let dogs and cats be around the house? Biophilia Theory says that this has to do with our innate connexion to the natural world. So, by connecting with your pet you will see that the bond between humans and animals feels so natural that you are left with the impression that you have known each other since ever. It’s no wonder that people say that a pet’s wet nose is the best therapy in the world!
Taking this into consideration, Rey was my assistant for 8 years in my counselling sessions. His role was to help me notice people’s emotions through his behavior. This way, we were able to easily talk about the story behind those emotions. This happened because dogs in general communicate through energy and they respond positively when humans are calm and ferm.
So, humans need to control their emotions, especially the ones that lead to poor energy like fear and anxiety and have to look in their inner selves for those emotions that can help them balance. Life with Rey was really hard. All those who came to visit him agreed with this statement. And do you know what made it so hard? It was his presence. Rey was like a mirror. He told you how and who you were. He “spoke” about your fears and joys.
When you felt you’re about to cry but you didn’t, he came and showed you that it was ok to do so, when you were angry and about to scream, he came and showed you that… all your feelings are just that: feelings. They are neither good or bad. They just exist. So, this is what Rey did: He highlighted the fact that you are being a human with feelings that are natural.
